So now episode 5 is in the can, what a great time. If you have a chance to see this show being filmed whether you are on vacation or are in the Los Angeles area, do it. This show has great writers, actors, directors and crew members. Although the last taping on the 18th of March is sold out, I am sure that they will have a second season so watch for tickets coming available later in the year.
This episode centers on Rebecca (Alyssa Milano) and Perrys (Kyle Bornheimer) High School Reunion and oddly enough that is the title of the episode. As with most reunions there is stress to show your former classmates how you have succeeded. Well add in a few twists and turns and that is where this episode takes you. I wont go into any more detail here, you will just have to wait for the show to air. This episode will most likely air sometime in the first weeks of May.
Earlier I posted a review of episode 1, and I wanted to point out what I noted that is different from then till now. In episode 1 I did notice that some lines were a little forced and there was often several takes with the same lines and different emphasis put on the lines each time. We as the audience were trying to figure out who there characters were, what was their background, attitudes and personalities. Each actor on the set was very serious between takes and turned to James Burrows often for input as to how their character could be made better and how lines should be delivered. We did get to see the final edited version of this first episode before the filming started. A few elements of that I remember being shot were taken out to get the show down to its 22 minute running time.
Now we are at episode 5 and the attitude on the set is completely different. The actors were very relaxed between takes and often joked with the studio audience and with each other. This comfort was really felt while each scene was being filmed, the interaction between the characters was smoother, delivery was more natural. More of the dialog was missed or repeated during this episode, which could be either that it was new lines, or just the shooting schedule for the evening which ran quite fast. The scenes in this episode were shorter and there were more of them so cameras had to be moved quite a bit. The timeline also covered several days so we had a lot of wardrobe changes. The shooting schedule was hectic and we did not get out of the studio until 10:30 pm. There were quite a few extra sets that were created for this episode in addition to the 3 basic sets, Rebeccas house, Perrys apartment and the coffee house. The audience did get some direction to not “Wooo” at one point in the filming but some people did not get that, I am sure they will edit the scene so it works. Rebeccas son Justin played by Israel Broussard, did not appear in this episode.
Romantically Challenged stars Alyssa Milano as Rebecca, Kyle Bornheimer as Perry, Josh Lawson as Shawn, Kelly Sables as Lisa. The show is set to start airing April 5th at 9:30 pm on ABC. Dont miss it.
